No booze for me - I had a few pints of vintage cider on the 12th and woke up in a nightmare world where people had voted for a buffoon to destroy their country.... Sad

So condemning the killing of women and children by Israel is anti semite is it ? That makes me an anti semite then (which I am not), Israel killed 34 Palestinians on the 14th November, 8 of whom were children that is all Corbyn has done raise the issue, the killing of these 34 is not an isolated case and it just gives fuel to ISIS and the rest, perhaps if the west stopped Israel from doing this there might be a chance of a cease fire

Cheers

Ted the Red

PS I won't mention the election except to say the coming year will be extremely amusing watching UK politicians squirm when held to account for all the promises and guarantees they have given Laughing

I was one of just a few who had the good fortune of being able to put my cross next to a reputable independent MP who unfortunately just missed. I'm not sure I could have voted for any of the rest of the toxic's

Another Rusty Nail please

If Labour hadn't been taken over by old-school, hard-line Trots they'd have given Jazza the boot a long time ago and, with a decent leader, would have stood a chance of winning at the ballot box*.

BoZo's triumph is down to the "working-man" letting his prejudices and xenophobia trump™ the principles that we all thought that he might just still have lurking in the dark closet where he also keeps the remains of his sense. Sadly, it seems that selling his birthright (and much-vaunted but ultimately non-existent political allegiance) for a mess of potage is about his measure these days...

And Ted, as you well know but choose to ignore since it doesn't match your idealistic and simplistic view of the world, Israel was defending itself against attacks against its very existence by a peace-loving bunch of flower-carrying unicorns who go by the name of Islamic Jihad. At least half of the Palestinians killed on that day were militants, and Islamic Jolly Jihad agreed a cease-fire, and immediately broke it with a multiple rocket launch against Israel. Palestinian attacks are totally indiscriminate and make no attempt to spare children, or indeed civilians in general. Perhaps if YOU were faced by millions of fanatics seeking the death and destruction of you, your family and your entire people by any means you might learn to think a little more clearly....or perhaps not.

*I was one of those who voted, having flown over to the UK for just that purpose; I can't tell you how hard I gritted my teeth and held my nose as I put my cross beside the Labour candidate's name but sadly it was a waste of time. Frankly it made me even more certain that an exam is needed before any half-wit (literally) is allowed the privilege of voting: the apocryphal man on the Clapham omnibus is indeed as venal and stupid as some of us always suspected.

IMHO there is no such a thing like an innocent side in Palestine. Both have committed horrible crimes and of course they are responsible for them. An additional issue here has been that for a number of well documented reasons, Israel appears to be much-much more influential by comparison. Can see Israeli casualties among the innocent ones being promoted and over-reported while the Arab ones are typically presented as a footnote. A crime is a crime and should be treated on a equal measure, without double standards, independent of where it comes from. Whatever sympathy I have for the Jews being the victims of the nazi holocaust turns vapour before the crimes they commit themselves, much like I lose sympathy to the other side for the crimes of their own.

As to whether Corbin’s reputed anti-semitism played a role in his defeat, I believe you mates are more knowledgeable than me. I think Corbin was caught unable to maneuver between BREXIT and BREMAIN, failing to convince either sides, thus losing votes on every latitude.

Perhaps what has been the worse with these elections has been the impact fake news and lies seemed to have made coupled with the inability of the electoral to distinguish them from reality. Judging by what I have seen in the UK, the USA and nearly everywhere, it looks our electoral process is getting disorienting and nasty, favouring demagogues at the expense of the broader public.

In the end as they say, democracy dies in the dark.

cheers mates
