Post subject: Understanding Your Bulgarian Electricity Bill?

Our supplier EVN make me laugh and pull my hair out with frustration. I have been fighting them on and off for some years now about constant split second trip outs causing my TV satellite decoder and my Router to reset themselves. They come up with every excuse under the Sun and on occasion have tried to prove that it is my side of the consumer meter which again and again, I prove them wrong. I have had them place expensive monitoring equipment to which they refuse to share the results with me. In the end, they always tell me that they're going to upgrade the Grid in the coming financial year which usually gives them a window of at least 18 months and by the next summer, the problem starts again and the wheel turns another full circle.

Now, back in the earlier days, I used to pay in the Electricity company offices themselves, but they stopped that so I paid in the Post Office and got that long roll of confetti that if you study it, will tell you how much you're paying on top of your actual consumption for the pleasure of compensating the Oligarchs and other Mafia for their massive Solar Park Green Energy. You're not given a choice in this, take it, pay for it or get disconnected.

Now, being a Capitalist, I have a couple of other houses dotted around the local area. Both are registered as BUSINESS level Tariffs as they're both owned by my company and they do not allow me to register them as Domestic Tariff Properties on my own name. Now, neither property actually consumes any electricity, but because they're classed as Business Properties, I have to pay a monthly standing charge just to keep the connection.

Nowadays, I pay online and just added these two properties for payment. I never took any real notice before, just giving the Post Office the account numbers, saying, 'both together' and paying what she asked for and taking my rolls of confetti home with me. So today, I noticed that I am paying circa 4 Lv. for one village property and circa 11 Lv. for a property just up the road from my house connected to the same supply cable too. I also took the time to see what Tariffs they're charging me for and discovered the following:-

Electricity for domestic customers - low voltage, one tariff
Electricity for business customers - low voltage, one tariff
Access to the distribution network for business customers

So, I wrote to them this morning asking why the disparity on two differing village properties and why on one I am being charged both a Business and Domestic Tariff as surely, it can only be one or another. They replied and they did actually address me as Moscow Wolf!! Shocked

Dear Moscow Wolf,

Please be advised that the distribution grid access cost for both ITN is different. The grid access is not connected with electricity consumption, it depends on the declared power capacity in kW and the number of days in the period under review.

For example - if you have 15 kW power capacity, the number of days of the reading period is 30, the cost will be following: 15*30*0,01981 BGN (the grid access price at the moment)

We hope that information is helpful for you.

Kind regards,

Well, NO actually, it means nothing to me really, so I reply asking what is the difference in Kw between the two properties and why my 'Container House' is also connected to the very same supply and is charged at the lower 4-5 Lv rate standing charge? Now, I run the risk of all 3 supplies being charged at 11 Lv. per month, but to be honest, as usual, I do think that EVN is extracting the Urine here.

So, those of you that know me, will remember, I don't usually do short posts, but the moral of this story is, CHECK YOUR BILLS, you might well be getting shafted without a defensible reason. Rolling Eyes

Wink

Different rules for different regions and different companies maybe, but my house is still owned by a company and when I first got the electricity lines reconnected I had no difficulty in doing the account in my own name and at domestic rates.

Apart from the myriad of supply outages that you bestow upon me on a regular basis and now seemingly, the rapidly escalating cost of your supplied electricity, thank you, CEZ... Laughing

Yes, my house, the one I live in, I purchased back in 2009 on a BG Company and at that time, I was also allowed to have a Domestic tariff on my own name, but since then, EVN aren't having any of that and IF I am not careful, they will force Business Tariffs upon me for this dwelling too.

They have basically replied that I am paying for what I signed up for and that being 15 kW. I might not be fluent in Bulgarian, but I would know what 15 kW was in their office and I am 100% sure that I was never offered a choice. Therefore, I have now instructed them to lower the capacity to the minimum kW as why waste money on a property that I have little intention of consuming electricity for in the coming year(s). I'm betting that they're going to reply that it will cost me to change it. I wish sometimes that I had £Millions to throw at legal actions to this kind of shite, but I don't so have to try and battle my way through the best I can. Wink

There is a degree of rational in having different standing charges for different connection rating. There is only so much electricity that can be supplied over any given circuit governed by the length and gauge of the cable, in theory anyway. It therefore follows that everyone on any particular circuit should pay proportionally according to their allocation for the rent of the line. Naturally a generalised rate would apply. I doubt that you would find the UK any better except that charges would be obscured in the overall billing. Reliability of course is another matter.

Love it, the house was probably built during the 50's and I doubt they were supplied with 15 kW back then or, even needed it. Anyway, it is what it is: -

Dear,

The power capacity of every property is determined the first time - when the property is still in construction, by the first owner.

If you wish to reduce it, you can request that in an EVN Office, just keep in mind that if you in the future happen to need more power, you would have to go through the new connection process with the grid company and to pay the price for the extra power.
We hope that information is helpful for you.

You're LUCKY (even if you don't live in a shoe-box and work 26 hours a day etc Wink )

Our village gaff is owned through a company and CEZ refuse point-blank to put it on a domestic tariff, even though it only gains them a few stotinki a month....

Still, it might yet come in handy if BoZo isn't hauled off to Tower Hill to receive the proper send-off that he so richly deserves....
